Feeding Kittens
In addition to their mothers’ milk, baby animals receive the very same food as adult animals
when cared for by nature. Naturally, kittens will nurse for 3 months while eagerly learning
from their mothers how to hunt, in preparation for their independence.Kittens in particular
show a true craving for the raw meat food and easily make the transition. At the age of 4-5
weeks the little tykes are ready to have their first taste of solid food. Introduction of
solid food does not indicate that the kittens no longer require nursing. Only at 12 weeks
old are the kittens truly independent from their mother’s milk. This, too, will help prevent
behaviour problems later in life.
The table below demonstrates a sound feeding schedule for kittens. If necessary, increase
frequency and/or adjust amounts fed based on your kittens appetite. Kittens should eat regular
meals consistently. If your kitten has no appetite - especially when the adult teeth are coming
in at around the age of 5 months - encourage him/her to eat by finger feeding. This will NOT
spoil your kitten.

Although there is no natural need for a formula especially designed for kittens, Feline Future
offers a Kitten Formula for these following reasons:
- InstinctsTC Kitten Formula provides nutrients that are easily absorbed by even the youngest of kittens.
In the domestic setting, kittens rarely have the fortune to stay with their mom until the natural process of weaning is completed by 12 weeks of age. Although this period is crucial for the normal physical and mental development of the kitten, most of them arrive in the care of their new family between the ages of 4-8 weeks. Cat babies of that tender age have different nutritional needs.
- Kittens don't need fibre
Our original InstinctsTC formula contains fibre to create stool volume in adult cats. Cats eating mice and
birds have stool volume from the hair and feathers ingested from their prey, which are made up of indigestible
proteins. Instead of hair and feathers we use Psyllium husk in our original formula. Kittens’ digestive tracts
are very sensitive, however, and dietary fibre can cause irritation, which is why there is no added fibre in
the Kitten Formula.
- For the Kitten Formula we have blended the liver into the InstinctsTC for you.
Liver is an essential source of nutrients for cats and kittens. Absence of nutrients supplied by liver from
the diet of growing kittens can have livelong detrimental effects. Some customers tell us that the preparation
of the InstinctsTC cat food is inconvenient and unpleasant because of the need to add raw liver.
Instincts Kitten Formula is suitable for kittens as young as 4 weeks and can also be enjoyed by your adult cat,
as long as your adult cat remains regular in her litter box.
