How do I switch my cat over to this food ?
Ensuring the potential of lifelong health, or restoring health to your cat with InstinctsTC
is a lifestyle choice you as caregiver make for your cat. When transitioning a cat
from commercial dry or canned foods, be prepared for some reluctance on the cat's part in
accepting the raw meat diet. It is important that you as caregiver have confidence in the
new diet and enforce the change despite resistance. Being so specialized in their dietary
needs and nutritionally dependant on and limited to specific foods, it is a natural process
for cats to become fixated on a main staple food during kittenhood. In nature, this programmed
behaviour ensures that the young cat will know what to hunt and eat when the time comes to
be independent from its mother.

Some tips:
- The favourite meat choice for the transition period is chicken and/or turkey. Begin with ground
meat and graduate to chunks.
Although we recommend feeding a variety of meats, temporary limitation in meat choices during the
transition period is acceptable.
- In our experience, beef is at first not as well tolerated by many cats (they throw it up), but
may be introduced at a later time once the cat is accustomed to digesting raw meat.
- Due to its high fat content which causes indigestion, as well as unique odour, lamb is best
reserved for a later introduction as well, if at all.
- Freezing the prepared food in small portions - like ice cube trays - will provide convenience
and prevent waste while phasing in the new food. Once frozen, re-pack the ice-cubed food into
freezer bags.
Getting started:
- Remove all current food and present your cat with a small portion of the new raw meat food.
If your cat is fond of the new food right from the onset, you may ignore the following transition
steps and start your cat on the path to better health by feeding InstinctsTC.
- For those cats that are hesitant about their new food, you may want to proceed by following our
suggested steps on how to phase out their current food.
For this, remove all dry food and feed a “premium” quality canned product. Begin feeding your
cat designated meals, without leaving food out all day.
- Mix a small quantity e.g. 1 tsp. of the new raw meat food into your cats canned food meal.
If your cat readily accepts this addition, increase the portion of raw meat food gradually in
every meal, while reducing the canned food in proportion.
- Finger feeding has been a very successful method of getting cats and kittens
to eat.
In a relaxed, comfortable environment without disruptions by other people or animals, sit with
your cat and present the food from your finger. Use food that is as fresh as possible with the
chill taken off, but not warm. Scoop a small amount of food out of the dish and hold it right under
your cats nose, gently touching the cat’s nose with it. This will encourage your cat to lick her nose
and get a taste of the food. Do not restrain your cat when finger feeding and do not force the food
in or on your cat’s mouth. Instead, encourage and re-assure your cat with affection and play. When
your cat takes the food off your finger, continue finger feeding until your cat indicates s/he had
enough. Repeat finger-feeding sessions throughout the day until your cat appears willing to take the
food from the dish.
- The whole process of transitioning may take as much or as little time as dictated by the cat.
Be patient and flexible with this process. Don't hold back if your cat appears ready for more,
but don't rush if your cat need more time with a certain raw meat food to canned food ration.
